WOMEN OWNED SMALL BUSINESS PROGRAM GETS GREATER FOCUS AND SOLE SOURCE ADVANTAGE Washington, DC... The National Defense Authorization Act passed by the congress and signed into law by the President modifies section 825 of the code to empower certain Women Owned Small Businesses to seek and be awarded sole source contracts, a feat previously reserved to other categories. "Yes, there are certain restrictions and caveats in the code," explained Dean Ledbetter noted expert in WOSB and EDWOSB Contracting and principal of New Paradigm Management. "I was in Washington D.C. last week meeting with about a half dozen Small Business Officers from several departments and all of them were aware of the change in the law. But all of them had different opinions regarding its application. Personally, I think congress' intent is clear and well defined how this change should work. I see no need to wait for the promulgation of regulations before pursuing these opportunities."
New Paradigm Leadership Noted by SBA Administrator
Ft. Lauderdale, FL............Maria Contreras-Sweet, the newly appointed administrator of the US Small Business Administration sent a letter to Mr. Dean Ledbetter, Founder and Director of New Paradigm Management, acknowledging his leadership in the small business community and emphatically wishing him continued success. Other excerpts from the letter are below, but you can read the brief epistle in its entirety here.
Our conversation was very productive and informative....."As I travel across the country meeting with small business owners from different industries and regions, I am impressed with their ingenuity and determination and appreciation of the many partners who support them."
New Paradigm wholeheartedly supports the new agency focus despite budget cuts and personnel constraints. The SBA has finally acknowledged that the US Government is the single largest buyer of everything in the world and with its concentrated buying power the government is in a position to help small business in a meaningful and substantive way.
